Get Your Daffodils Out for St. David

wales

Today is St. David’s Day, the Welsh patron saint, so what better excuse to indulge in the best Welsh fare and culture the capital has to offer?  The Famous Three Kings pub in Fulham is popular with Welsh ex-pats and is a great place to watch the Six Nations. Today  it’s celebrating with traditional Welsh food and music from a live band. They serve Brains beer on tap, and the place is often so full of  red-shirted rugby fans you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in Cardiff. A Welsh oasis in the heart of West London. From 7.30pm tonight, The London Welsh Centre is celebrating Daffyd with a Twmpath – a Welsh ceilidh – and traditional Welsh music and line dancing. If you are looking for the real deal, this may be the closest to the valleys you can get without leaving London.

If you were looking for a quieter way of celebrating the saint, why not pop down to to 40Medcalf40 in the heart of Exmouth Market and try their mouth-watering Welsh Rarebit. The simple and inspired cooking at Medcalf showcases the very best produce from throughout Britain and takes advantage of high quality, fresh, and often organic seasonal ingredients. The robust menu changes daily and has a distinctly British theme. If you can wait until tomorrow when they reopen, drop into Odette’s for a spot of Welsh cooking at its best. Head chef Bryn Williams serves inimitable Modern British cuisine utilising the finest produce from his native Wales, around the Uk and Europe. He recently competed on the BBC’s Great British Menu on behalf of his home country, and went on to cook for Her Majesty’s Birthday Banquet. If endorsement by our soveriegn isn’t enough for you, head down to Roast situated in the former portico of a flower market, and try their Elwy Valley Lamb, or roast rib of Welsh black beef.
