The Power of Pomegranates

POM Wonderful is a new and innovative company based in the Californian wilderness. It is dedicated to health and wellbeing and the only ingredient in POM is unsurprisingly Pomegranates, which date back to 1500 BC and have been noted for their medicinal qualities.

I tried POM at the Gore Hotel in South Kensington, which was the perfect setting to be introduced to this historical fruit as the hotel also has an interesting and cultural past. The point of the evening? To show us the potential of pomegranates. A four-course tasting meal contained dishes all with some type of pomegranate infusion. After dinner we were given an informative lecture from Kay Dilley, a nutritionist who has studied pomegranates in detail and has co-written the book the Prostate Cancer Cookbook.

There are a few other pomegranate juices on the market but this is by far the healthiest. While most just take the arils (seeds or pips) POM Wonderful takes the whole fruit including the peel and crushes it, the peel being the most important aspect of the fruit as it contains the Polyphenols which are the chemicals that contain healing properties, and have been linked to preventing prostate cancer. POM wonderful is an important antioxidant and is 300 times more powerful than grape juice.
