Film4 Summer Screen

As we seem to have been uncharacteristically blessed with good weather this year, outdoor events have been what every Londoner has been on the lookout for this summer. Next on the agenda is the Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House, which begins its short season tomorrow (29 Jul).
You will find that some of the more high profile films have sold out already, but for classic film lovers this is a great way to spend an alternative balmy summer evening. The Film4 Summer Screen Season runs from 29 Jul–8 Aug and some of the hot tickets still up for grabs are Black Narcissus, Paths of Glory and Master and Commander. Don’t expect to pay cinema prices however; tickets at Somerset House are £16.50 – it’s the experience you’re paying for after all isn’t it?
Even if you’re favourite film is sold out there are still tickets available for the Behind the Screen talks and events. Find out why vampires have caught our imaginations so vehemently, how music can make or break a film, and even how the camera has created some of the most memorable and eye-catching cinematic experiences.
For those of you who have managed to nab tickets to the more popular screenings, doors open at 6.30pm and there will be lively DJ entertainment from 7.30pm to get you into the heckling mood. It’s advisable to arrive early as there is no fixed seating and you will need to bag a rug spot pretty pronto to avoid sitting on top of someone’s sandwiches. Meanwhile feel free to bring drinks (in plastic containers only), snacks, gourmet spreads or even just a trusty bag of Butterkist. The film showing will start at 9.15pm.
For tickets to both film showings and Behind the Screen events visit www.somersethouse.org.uk and you will be directed to Ticketmaster.
